Channel Info Project or "CHIP" was born out of the realisation that lack of access to information contributes to worsening the already appalling living conditions of exiles on the northern coast and exposes them to increased risks along the Franco-British border.

This project takes over from the Refugee Info Bus association, which has decided to concentrate on other missions. CHIP was set up by former members of this association within the Auberge des Migrants.
Our project aims to reduce this considerable lack of access to information. We coordinate with a network of organisations in France, the UK and wider in the EU to gather and disseminate multilingual, reliable, and regularly-updated information. We also advocate for dignified and sustainable access to services that meet the basic needs of people on the move, so that they can make the most informed choices possible during their journey.
To achieve this, CHiP focuses on the following tasks :
- Electricity recharging sessions and WiFi connections close to where people live.
- Facilitating access to essential services for exiles and taking part in risk prevention and reduction during Channel crossings via outreach and information points.
- Drafting of a multilingual guide to essential services (emergency numbers, access to food, and material aid distribution, accommodation solutions, medical care etc.) for new arrivals in Calais and Dunkirk.
- Access to telephone credit for people on the move.
- Co-hosting workshops on applying for asylum in the UK, general information and referrals to legal advice for people wishing to apply for asylum in France.
